Security and logistics finalised for Nellore local body elections
NELLORE: The district administration has announced a substantial security deployment and a suite of logistical measures as Nellore prepares for the upcoming local body elections. Around 4,000 police personnel will be deployed across the district to ensure peaceful polling, District Superintendent of Police Dr Ajitha Vejendla said on Monday.
At a review meeting convened at the Collectorate, District Collector Himanshu Shukla directed officials to make arrangements that would ensure transparent elections and "foolproof" facilities at both polling and counting centres. Election observer Sada Bhargavi urged strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct and asked officials to guard against any violations.
- Polling date: Municipal polling scheduled for October 28.
- Nominations for MPTC and ZPTC: To be received from October 21 to 23 at the respective MPDO offices and the Zilla Parishad office.
- Security deployment: Approximately 4,000 police personnel and special police teams for highly sensitive locations.
Technology, training and sensitive-station measures
Officials said arrangements are being made to equip highly sensitive polling stations with CCTV cameras and to provide webcasting of proceedings at those locations. The administration is also working on logistics for postal ballots and transportation of polling materials.
Election monitoring teams are to coordinate closely with officials at the field level. The observer stressed the need for proper training of polling staff and micro-observers to ensure procedure compliance and minimise errors on polling day.

Counting centres, facilities and contingency planning
The collector emphasised that counting centres must have adequate facilities and security to handle sensitive vote tabulation tasks. While municipal nominations have already been completed, the administration has signalled that arrangements for polling material transport, postal ballot management and contingency responses to untoward incidents are being finalised.

District officials also highlighted the need to streamline voter facilitation at polling stations, including accessibility measures and amenities for elderly and differently-abled voters. While the meeting concentrated on immediate election logistics, the outcome will have broader bearing on governance at the grassroots: local bodies elected in these polls will oversee civic services affecting agriculture, water supply, rural roads and local markets — sectors critical to Nellore's socio-economic landscape.
In addition to law-and-order preparations, the administration is expected to finalise deployment rosters, polling staff training schedules and transport routes in the coming days. Special police teams will be tasked with pre-emptive policing at spots identified as sensitive, and enhanced security will be maintained at those polling stations on polling and counting days, the SP said.
With nominations for MPTC and ZPTC scheduled to open later this week, political stakeholders and voters in rural mandals are preparing for the next phase of electoral activity. The district's focus on combining personnel deployment with technology and training reflects a standard election-management approach aimed at minimising disruptions and ensuring that the process runs smoothly from nomination to counting.
Officials have not provided a ward-by-ward breakdown of deployment, but have indicated that adjustments will be made based on the sensitivity of each polling station and intelligence inputs in the run-up to October 28.
